How are profits from the stock market or trading declared?

!! Congratulations!!

You have achieved the most difficult. You have managed to start operating in the financial markets and have achieved (or not) some income, but now it’s your turn: DECLARE YOUR TAXES.

Do not panic!

In this blog today we are going to explain how to pay taxes on financial assets, so that you know how to update your declaration.

Financial futures.

A future is a contract in which the exchange of a good, its quantity and its price for a certain date is agreed.

For these assets, and for financial options, the way to declare them is the same as for a capital gain, so the tax base of savings is applied.

In the case of shares, the

taxation

is the next:

When it is less than 6,000 euros, a rate of 19% will be applied Between 6,000 and 50,000 euros, 21% will be applied And above 50,000 euros, a 23% tax will be applied.

Now, futures and options have no retention and generate two types of income.

On the one hand, the coverage of income, which is included in the general base and, on the other, those that constitute capital gains or losses, which would be taxed based on savings as explained above.

The

CFDS

are taken into account as savings income. In the calculation of the annual IRPF adjustment, you have to calculate the difference between the price of the contract.

The

financial derivatives

like swaps, warrants and CFDs have withholdings and are taxed as capital gains or losses.

In the case of CFDs, as they are included in the savings income in the calculation of the annual personal income tax adjustment, the difference received from the contract is taxed in the same way as other financial assets.

If the operation has not gone well for you, you do not have to pay taxes, and although the loss must be reflected in the statement, it is not mandatory to use the profits of the current year to cover the loss, since the law allows compensating the result within the four years of the loss.

If the benefits are obtained through CFDS operations in the final balance, they will be taxed like other products in the tax base of the savings: When it is less than 6,000 euros, a rate of 19% will be applied Between 6,000 and 50,000 euros, 21% will be applied And greater than 50,000 euros onwards, a 23% tax will be applied.
